The Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall in Taipei city is one of Taiwanโs most famous landmarks.
This place is a must see if youโre ever in Taipei, and so is the Liberty Square and its impressive gate. The architecture here is awesome, and itโs dedicated to one of the most important figures from Taiwanese history.
This travel guide will explain how to get there, and everything you need to know before you go!Liberty Square Taipei
The CKS Memorial Hall is part of Taipeiโs Liberty Square, a public plaza with a bunch of landmarks and a giant Chinese gate at the front. Even the gate is amazing.
My wife rented a qipao (traditional Chinese dress) and we got the perfect pictures here, with the gates and other buildings as a backdrop. If you come back at night, the gate is lit up and looks stunning.
Inside the plaza, youโll also find two big orange buildings. These are the National Concert Hall and National Theater of Taiwan.
Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall
The blue and white Chiang Kai Shek memorial building sits at the back of the Liberty Square.
Itโs dedicated to General Chiang Kai-shek, the Chinese military leader who famously fought the communists and Japanese in the 20th century. Sadly they lost that battle, and thatโs why they were forced to flee to Taiwan, which is a free country today.
The CKS memorial building is impressive, and it has a small hint of similarity to Beijingโs Temple of Heaven, but this one is not quite as fancy looking IMO.
Inside, thereโs a free museum (more like a mini-museum), and an hourly changing of the guard ceremony that you can watch.
Entrance Fee
FREE as of 2020.
Thereโs no entrance fee for the CKS memorial hall or the main square.
How To Get There
The Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall is located in the Zhongzheng District of Taipei city, in Taiwan.
Itโs easy accessible by the metro, and the nearest station is just a 1 minute walk!
