Uluwatu Beach Guide: The 14 Best Beaches In Uluwatu, Bali

by David & Intan

Iโ€™ve been meaning to put together an Uluwatu beach guide for awhile now, because this area of Bali has some of the best beaches on the whole island.

Uluwatu beaches are known for their white sand, blue waves, impressive sea cliffs, perfect sunsets, and top quality surfing.

The only place in Bali where you might find nicer beaches is in Nusa Penida, but Uluwatu has the advantage of being easier to reach and having more clubs and hotels.

Without further ado, hereโ€™s our complete list of the best beaches in Uluwatu, Bali!

Where To Stay

Uluwatu Beaches Map

Hereโ€™s an Uluwatu beaches map you can use to plan your Bali trip. You can click the icons to get more info and directions for each point of interest, but keep in mind some of the locations on this map may be approximate.

For more detailed information on how to get to the Uluwatu beaches on this map, you can check out my individual travel guides for each location.

The Best Beaches In Uluwatu Bali

1. Bingin Beach

This is a photogenic beach with exotic boulders and seaweed covered rocks. Itโ€™s great for scenic pics or surfing, and itโ€™s less crowded than some of the other beaches in the area.

Thereโ€™s a bit of trash and rubble lately from hotel construction, but some high quality accommodation and restaurants are starting to spring up here.

2. Pemutih Beach

Pantai Pemutih is a popular surfing spot with some cliffside hotels and a small (but nice) white sand beach.

Not too many people seem to know about this beach, which makes it that much better. If you want to stay directly on the beach, check out Rock N Reef Hotel Uluwatu!

3. Padang Padang Beach

This is a neat little beach hidden in the cliffs. To get to it, you have to squeeze through a narrow passage in the rocks and then walk down some steps.

Padang Padang is a popular spot for surfing, or you can just sip a fresh coconut and hang out on the white sand with the monkeys.

4. Balangan Beach

This is a nice free beach with white sand and blue waves. Like many beaches in Uluwatu, itโ€™s a great spot for sunset.

Balangan Beach is also popular for prewedding photoshoots because of the cliff above the beach, where you can get amazing views of the ocean scenery and the whole coastline.

Itโ€™s still fairly quiet here and not too commercial. You can access the beach by going down some stairs, and there are two parking areas โ€” one for the beach, and one on the cliff above it.

5. Thomas Beach

This is one of Baliโ€™s nicest beaches, and itโ€™s one of our favorite spots in Uluwatu. It has a long strip of white sand scattered with boulders, and not too many people.

6. Suluban Beach

Suluban is a secluded beach with some caves and huge rocks to explore, but my favorite thing is the restaurant view. Itโ€™s an epic place to grab breakfast while exploring Uluwatu Bali.

7. Nunggalan Beach

This is one of the bigger white sand beaches in south Bali, and it may be our favorite Uluwatu beach. The walk down and back up is a bit of a killer, but youโ€™re rewarded with a huge private beach and a cool wooden shipwreck for pictures!

8. Melasti Beach

This is a highly developed beach with a road carved into the tall limestone cliffs, giving it a stunning background.

Melasti Beach has a long strip of white sand, clean turquoise water, and a bunch of different fancy clubs lining the beachfront: Cattamaran, Minoo, and Palmilla. You can also reach Karma Beach Club from here by walking.

Itโ€™s becoming one of the most popular beaches in south Bali, and thereโ€™s even a photogenic Balinese style gate where you can take pictures.

9. Karma Beach

Karma Beach is very nice, with a few photogenic boulders but mostly white sand and blue waves. Itโ€™s also home to the Karma Beach Club.

This one is billed as a private beach and you normally access it from Karma Kandara on the cliffs above, although you can also walk to it easily and freely from Melasti Beach.

Of course, if you plan to use the facilities at Karma Beach Club then you would need to pay.

In any case, Karma is definitely one of the most beautiful white sand beaches in the Uluwatu area!

10. Green Bowl Beach

Green Bowl is one of my favorite hidden beaches in Uluwatu Bali.

It may not be a very big beach, and the steep walk down is tiring, but the white sand is nice and soft.

Surfers come to Green Bowl for the waves, and there are two caves to explore on the beach.

11. Gunung Payung Beach

This is a hidden beach overlooked by cliffs and a quiet Hindu temple.

You have to walk a long stairway down to the beach, but then itโ€™s all yours. If you walk along the coast, thereโ€™s even a big sea cave.

12. Dreamland Beach

Dreamland has a nice long stretch of white sand lined with sunbeds you can rent.

Sadly this beach has gone a bit downhill in recent years because of trash washing up from the ocean, but hopefully things improve again.

13. Tegal Wangi Beach

This a small beach near the Jimbaran area, about 30 minutes from Uluwatu Temple.

My favorite part about this one is the big sea cave, but itโ€™s also known as a great place to catch the sunset. There two sea caves on the beach, but you have to walk a bit farther to find the best one.

14. Uluwatu Beach Clubs

The beaches and cliffs around Uluwatu are just perfect for clubs, so naturally it has quite a few of them.

The way these clubs usually work is that you pay an entrance fee (anywhere from 100k to 500k Rupiah), and then you get to use that as a food and beverage credit, plus you get access to a lounge with a pool, sunbeds, and WiFi.

Depending on the club, your view from the lounge could be a nice beachfront, or an infinity pool โ€” or both! Sipping drinks by an infinity pool is a great way to watch the Uluwatu sunset.

Some good clubs to check out are Ulu Cliffhouse, Sundays Beach Club, Palmilla, El Kabron, and Oneeighty.

Our absolute favorite club for sunset is the Oneeighty cliff pool at The Edge! The pool has a glass bottom and amazing views of the Uluwatu cliffs.

Best Uluwatu Beach Tours

If you want to explore Uluwatu beaches with a tour package, there are lots of great online options available.

GetYourGuide has Uluwatu tours that include scenic beaches, clubs, sunsets, and iconic locations like Uluwatu Temple and the GWK cultural park. They also offer some neat activities like tandem paragliding.

Weโ€™ve used this company for lots of tours and activities around the world, and theyโ€™re great. Highly recommended!

Bali Private Driver & Motorbike Rental

If you want to explore Bali in the comfort and safety of a private car with an English speaking driver, my top recommendation would be GetYourGuide.

Their price is 650k Rupiah ($45 USD) for a full day of driving and sightseeing in Bali (up to 10 hours) for 1-5 passengers. That's the total price for the whole car + driver + petrol! It's a great deal. They also offer affordable hotel transfers from the airport.

If you'd rather travel by motorbike, they have that too. Their scooter rentals start at 140k Rupiah (~$9) and include a helmet, rain coat, and free delivery in the south Bali area.

We've used GetYourGuide for lots of tours and activities around the world, and they're great! Highly recommended.
