The city of Dubai is becoming very popular as a tourist destination in the country of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but most Americans would probably have a hard time finding it on a world map.
Even when I talk to some of my friends, they have no idea where Dubai is located, or they think it’s a country (Dubai is not a country). This is understandable since it didn’t really become a popular place to travel until the last couple decades.
Still, this Middle Eastern city is a popular place for travelers to transit while flying back and forth between the continents of Asia, Europe, and other parts of the world. It also gets about 17 million tourists per year since it has some of the world’s fanciest hotels, malls, and theme parks, so it’s likely to get more and more popular.
Hopefully this Dubai map and location guide will help clear up any confusion!
Where Is Dubai On The World Map?
Dubai is a city and emirate (state) in a country called the United Arab Emirates (UAE), so first let’s find the UAE on the world map.
The United Arab Emirates is a small Middle Eastern nation which would technically be considered part of the continent of Asia, and it’s surrounded by Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the Persian Gulf, as you can see (in red) on the map below.
Where Is Dubai Located In The UAE?
Next, let’s look at a map showing the country of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and let’s find Dubai (in red).
Dubai is sandwiched between Abu Dhabi (the biggest emirate) to the south, and 5 smaller emirates to the northeast. The UAE has 7 emirates total, and Dubai is the most populated.

Lastly, hereโs a close-up Dubai city map for tourists.
This is a complete map showing the main regions and important locations of Dubai.
Areas Of Dubai
The Dubai emirate has 6 main areas.
Here’s a brief summary of what you can find in each area of Dubai:
- Bur Dubai: A historical district that includes the Dubai Museum and Dubai Souk (market).
- Deira: Has the Deira clocktower, gold and perfume souks, and the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.
- Hatta: An exclave (territory surrounded by another state) with scenic mountains, forts, kayaking, and camping.
- Jebel Ali: Port town with Legoland, Motiongate, and Dubai Parks & Resorts. Also planned to be the future home of Dubai’s new mega airport.
- Jumeirah: Home to iconic Dubai landmarks like the Burj Al-Arab Hotel and the Palm Jumeirah man-made archipelago.
- Suburbs: Self explanatory.
How To Get To Dubai
The Dubai International Airport (code: DXB) is the main airport serving Dubai and the country of the United Arab Emirates.
It’s one of the biggest and busiest airports in the world, with more than 86 million passengers served in 2019, but it’s also a very nice airport in my opinion.
There are direct flights to the Dubai airport from Africa, Asia, Australia, Brazil, Europe, the Middle East, the United States, and many different countries around the world.

What Is Dubai Like?
Dubai is known for its high end resorts and shopping malls, and it’s also home to the world’s tallest building, a skyscraper called the Burj Khalifa.
The UAE has many other attractions and things to see near Dubai if you look around, such as Ferrari World and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
Dubai is basically a modern city in the desert. It has an arid climate, so it’s very hot and dry year round. The coolest months are from November to March, and this is probably the best time to visit Dubai if weather is your main consideration.
It can get extremely hot here in the summer. Temperatures can get up to 49 C (120 F) in July or August, and donโt count on having any trees for shade!
The UAE is a Muslim country, but foreigners and tourists are welcome. It’s a very safe country, and crime and terrorism are not a problem. The only thing to note is that Emirati culture is conservative, so clothing in public should be modest.
Even though Dubai has a lot of hotels that cater to high end travelers, it’s still possible to visit on a budget. Private hotels can be found for as low as $50 USD, and meals are usually about $10 to $15 depending on location.
Cars can be rented or hired in Dubai, and we recommend DiscoverCars for this! Transportation apps like Uber and Careem are also good for short distance trips, and the UberEats app can even be used for food delivery in Dubai.
