Munduk Waterfall Hike & Trekking In North Bali

by David & Intan

The Munduk Waterfall hike takes you on a great point-to-point trek through the jungle highlands in north Bali.

There are actually a bunch of waterfalls in the Munduk area (Munduk is the name of the village), but this one with a single spout is one of the more popular ones in the area.

These waterfalls are all worth a visit if youโ€™re passing through north Bali! This travel guide will explain how to get there, and everything you need to know before you go!

Where To Stay In Munduk

The Munduk Waterfalls

The Munduk Waterfall (also known as Red Coral Waterfall) sits in a wide open landing without any trees.

This means the best lighting for photos will be an overcast day. On a sunny day (like when we went), thereโ€™s a lot of contrast and itโ€™s hard to take good pics.

The hike to the waterfall is a short, easy 10 minute walk from the parking lot, and there are very few tourists around here.

This waterfall may look small in some pics, but itโ€™s actually very tall. You can get a better sense of scale in the drone pic below!

Entrance Fee

FREE as of 2020.

There was no one collecting an entry fee when we visited.

Munduk Waterfall Hike

You can do this waterfall as part of a complete hike that visits 4 falls:

  • Golden Valley Waterfall
  • Munduk Waterfall (aka Red Coral Waterfall)
  • Labuhan Kebo Waterfall
  • Laangan Waterfall (aka Melanting Waterfall)

You can start the hike at Golden Valley and end at Laangan, or vice versa. Be prepared to spend a few hours if you hike between all four of them!

How To Get There

Munduk Waterfall is located in north Bali, Indonesia.

Itโ€™s a 2 hour drive from Ubud, or less than 1 hour from Singaraja.

The best way to get there is to rent a scooter or hire a private car and driver (both of these can be booked online).

The parking area is on the edge of a steep corner of the road, and doesnโ€™t have a lot of space. Thereโ€™s room for just 1 or 2 vans and some change.

Bali Private Driver & Motorbike Rental

If you want to explore Bali in the comfort and safety of a private car with an English speaking driver, my top recommendation would be GetYourGuide.

Their price is 650k Rupiah ($45 USD) for a full day of driving and sightseeing in Bali (up to 10 hours) for 1-5 passengers. That's the total price for the whole car + driver + petrol! It's a great deal. They also offer affordable hotel transfers from the airport.

If you'd rather travel by motorbike, they have that too. Their scooter rentals start at 140k Rupiah (~$9) and include a helmet, rain coat, and free delivery in the south Bali area.

We've used GetYourGuide for lots of tours and activities around the world, and they're great! Highly recommended.
